Biplane! When?
(8/26/00)
Coming soon! Biplane!(tm)
All of my modeling life I have wanted a biplane. Biplanes are, by nature, beautiful and fascinating. In the air and on the ground, there is something about a biplane that has always drawn people. What person, pilot or not, has looked upon a Tiger Moth and not had an urge to fly? I have always wanted an r/c biplane. Now I have one.
I have been disappointed for years that the biplane that I wanted was not offered as a kit. Every time I saw a kit that looked promising, further research revealed that the aircraft was either a high wing loading screamer or way too large to suit my tastes. I like small models. My definition of a large engine would be a .15. Up until recently, my preferred engine was a .10. With the advent of really good, reliable engines in the 1cc (.061) range, this has changed. My ?Biplane!? is powered by a Norvel BigMig .061, but any of the current crop of .061-.074 engines should work nicely. I do not recommend anything larger than an .074, as it simply is not necessary. This aircraft flies on the wing, and even the .061 provides more than enough power.
I should have kits available by late October. Photos and a short video clip will be posted early September.
